Today, we rode all around Cooke City and didn't see any recent avalanche activity. We dug in a 8 foot deep snowpack. In these deep areas, the early season weak layers are still there, but it's going to be hard to impact them. Be mindful, because there are plenty of places with thinner snowpack where you can still effect those weak layers. Also pay attention to the recent snow, because you could trigger a good size slide just breaking in that. #CookeCity | Friends of the Gallatin National Forest

This new snow creates dangerous avalanche conditions and we expect natural and human-triggered avalanches over the next 24-72 hours. More media in addition to our previous post about close call near Cooke City today (Dec. 11) A snowmobiler was fully buried for 12-15 minutes in an avalanche on Crown Butte near Daisy Pass. Luckily, the rider was wearing an avalanche transceiver. They were with a partner, but it is unknown if the pair had shovels and probes.
