The ruins of Whitby Abbey in England are so atmospheric that it has inspired many writers and artists over the years, including Bram Stoker, who used Whitby as the location for the first landing of Dracula in England. It’s fitting, as it’s said that it was here where Stoker himself first discovered the real Vlad Dracul in 1890, in the pages of a book he checked out from the local library. These majestic, gloomy ruins are all that's left of Whitby Abbey, a monastery that once stood on this site. It met its end in 1540 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, which took place during Henry VIII's rein.
