Enjoy a quiet moment with our Chilean flamingo flock as they perform some plumage maintenance in the South America aviary. Like all birds, flamingos preen their feathers often to keep them clean and waterproof. Recent studies have shown that some flamingos are also enhancing their pink coloration each time they preen by distributing pigments on the surface of each feather - essentially applying a temporary dye! Regular applications of pigmented preen oil helps to offset the color-fading effects
