The Royal Air Force and Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF) Typhoon Squadron have marked an important milestone with the commencement of flying as a Joint Squadron. 78 years ago this morning, 11 Lancasters of 617 Squadron returned home to RAF Scampton following Operation Chastise. 8 Lancasters had been lost, along with 53 RAF aircrew. 80 years ago, in January 1941, the Avro Lancaster flew for the first time.
