Gov. Gavin Newsom is traveling to Washington, D.C. to meet with the Trump administration, seeking federal aid for relief and recovery efforts in Los Angeles, where wildfires killed 29 people​ and left widespread destruction​ last month.

The White House confirmed that President Trump, who has repeatedly threatened to impose an array of conditions for federal wildfire assistance, will meet with California's governor.

In an interview aired Wednesday night, Trump said he may withhold aid to California until the state adjusts how it manages its scarce water resources. He falsely claimed that California’s fish conservation efforts in the northern part of the state are responsible for fire hydrants running dry in urban areas.

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Tuesday afternoon made his way to Washington, D.C. to meet with members of President Donald Trump's administration and lawmakers in Congress to try to secure disaster relief for those impacted by the devastating Los Angeles County wildfires.
