Perhaps the biggest threat to our jobs isn’t AI—but other, more talented people. Or so seems to be the case with Meta’s latest batch of layoffs.

Meta Platforms Inc. began notifying staff of job cuts on Monday, kick-starting a process that will terminate thousands of people as the company cracks down on “low-performers” and scours for new talent to dominate the AI race.

Meta employees in over a dozen countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa will receive their notifications of layoffs between February 11 and February 18.

Meta began laying people off Monday after saying it would target its lowest performers. Microsoft also sent termination letters last month, telling people their performance had "not met minimum performance standards.
