Organizers say climate campaigner Greta Thunberg and other 11 activists set sail on Sunday afternoon for Gaza on a ship aimed at “breaking Israel’s siege” of the devastated territory.
Israel has accused Hamas of firing on starving civilians at an aid site in Gaza, denying any role in the incident that killed at least 31 people. The IDF shared drone footage it says shows Hamas gunmen targeting the crowd.
There are concerns that the creation of a body that operates under an Israeli government model to deliver aid is politicising and militarising humanitarian efforts.
"Starving people will not let a food truck pass. They need to feed their families", the World Food Programme said.
Armed men hijacked dozens of aid trucks entering the Gaza Strip overnight and hundreds of desperate Palestinians joined in to take supplies, local aid groups said on Saturday as officials waited for Hamas to respond to the latest ceasefire proposals.
The Hamas official said proposed amendments focused on “the US guarantees, the timing of hostage release, the delivery of aid, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces.”
The trucks were stopped by hungry Palestinians as they entered into Gaza, the World Food Programme says. Follow the latest below and watch a special episode of The World with Yalda Hakim looking at the war in Gaza.
