The U.S. State Department will ask some visa applicants to post a $15,000 bond but only for temporary stay visas for citizens of Malawi and Zambia.

The State Department is proposing requiring applicants for business and tourist visas to post a bond of up to $15,000 to apply to enter the United States.

However, permanent residents in Canada, who are not originally from countries in the Visa Waiver Program, need visas to visit the U.S. So, if a Canadian permanent resident has a passport from one of the countries on the visa bond list, they would have to pay the bond in order to visit the U.S.
