Before adopting Republicans’ budget resolution, senators engaged in an all-night parliamentary marathon that Democrats used to try to force the G.O.P. into politically damaging votes.

The Senate voted to move ahead with legislation funding tens of billions for border security on Friday as Republicans overcame a Democratic-driven voting marathon that stalled its adoption. A budget resolution providing some $340 billion for the border and defense was approved by the Senate after Democrats offered dozens of amendments,

The Senate will proceed with its own plan, Majority Leader John Thune said, continuing to cast doubt on the House's ability to pass Trump's agenda in one big bill.
