NEW YORK (AP) — A second man charged in the kidnapping and torture of an Italian man for his Bitcoin has been indicted. A Manhattan grand jury handed up the indictment Friday against William Duplessie, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office. The indictment will remain sealed until his arraignment June 11.

John Woeltz, 37, and William Duplessie, 33 -- face kidnapping, assault and unlawful imprisonment charges in the case.

An alleged kidnapping in New York is the latest instance in which authorities say cryptocurrency-related crimes have involved real-world violence.

TMZ reports that the men spent up to $100,000 in a single night at The Box, a popular New York City nightclub, while living at the five-star Aman Hotel.

Officials said they found evidence of the alleged torture inside an upscale New York City apartment, including photos and a saw.

"Maybe the market wanted them to buy more bitcoin," said Strategy Chairman Michael Saylor in an interview at Bitcoin 2025 in Las Vegas. "But these are short-term dynamics. Over the long term, bitcoin on the balance sheet has proven to be extraordinarily popular."
