The 78th Tony Awards will air Sunday night on CBS. This year's event is hosted by Cynthia Erivo, best known for playing Elphaba in the movie version of Wicked.

Tony Awards are being handed out Sunday night. The first batch of winners is being presented during the Darren Criss- and Renée Elise Goldberry-hosted The Tony Awards: Act One preshow streaming on Paramount's free streaming service Pluto TV from 3:40-5 p.

The proper ceremony will begin at at 8 p.m. ET, with Cynthia Erivo hosting. The “Wicked” star takes over as emcee from Ariana DeBose, who hosted the past three shows. Erivo is a former Tony winner herself, having captured the best actress in a musical prize in 2016 for her turn in the Broadway revival of “The Color Purple.
