King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived at Parliament Hill in a horse-drawn carriage this morning and delivered the throne speech to mark the opening of the 45th Parliament. It’s the first time a Canadian monarch has done so since Queen Elizabeth opened Parliament in 1977. In the speech, King Charles repeatedly referenced Canada’s sovereignty.
Listening from the front row of the Senate is Chief Perry Bellegarde, Honorary President of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, sat beside his wife Valerie Galley Bellegarde, a policy analyst, researcher and writer on Indigenous priorities.
