Microsoft’s Windows Subsystem for Linux is now open-source
Microsoft is making its Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) open-source today, opening up the code for community members to contribute to.
Microsoft and Canonical have teamed up to add systemd support to the Windows Subsystem for Linux, allowing a larger number of compatible apps to be installed.
This way, WSL will stop being an optional component of Windows, and Microsoft will be able to provide updates and service faster and more efficiently without waiting for a Windows OS update.
