The Oracle-sponsored NetBeans team on Tuesday announced availability of the open source NetBeans 6.9 IDE featuring JavaFX Composer, a visual layout tool for building JavaFX GUI applications.

Also on tap is an updated plug-in to outfit the open source NetBeans platform for building JavaFX applications. New online demonstrations also are being made available.

Sun Microsystems has been relatively quiet about its JavaFX platform since announcing it at JavaOne in May. This week the platform gets a boost with the release of the OpenJavaFX Compiler.
