The SQL Server team is unleashing the first widespread test builds of the next version of Microsoft's database, a k a SQL Server 2008 R2 (codenamed "Kilimanjaro").

Microsoft issued some reminders this week that July 9, 2019, is the last day of patch support for SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2.

Microsoft's database releases from 2008 and 2010 reach end of extended support. In response, Redmond says, that for many customers, the time for cloud migration has arrived.
