During the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program, Boeing’s X-32 demonstrator aircraft drew a lot of negative press for its unsightly appearance, which sullied the aircraft’s reputation.
Total JSF program cost is now estimated at $329 billion for a 2,443 aircraft buy, up from the original 2001 baseline estimate of $197 billion for 2,852 fighters (all figures are in then year dollars).
