Universal Control is turned on by default on the Mac and the iPad, but you’ll need to head over to the Display pane in System Preferences/System Settings and select Add Display to select your iPad.
Note that while Universal Control lets you use your Mac's keyboard and trackpad to navigate your iPad, it functions over two different operating systems – macOS and iPadOS.
The last thing to bear in mind is that although Universal Control can be used with two or more Macs and no iPad, at least one Mac is required for use on the iPad.
Universal Control can be used with up to two other devices, in addition to a Mac. That means you can use it with a Mac and two iPads, two Macs and one iPad, or three Macs (look at you!).
