The S&P 500 was lifted 0.8%, looking at a record-high close. The Nasdaq composite gained 0.9%, after hitting a new intraday on the stock market today. Small caps on the Russell 2000 fared better than the major indexes and powered up 1.6%.

Berkshire Hathaway and the Dow Jones Industrial Average have some overlap on stocks that are held in both investment portfolios.

Stock futures are pointing to a slightly lower open for major indexes on Wednesday as investors respond to a slew of earnings reports from retailers and brace for a big speech later in the week by Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

The Dow Jones index closed slightly in positive territory. Nvidia, Palantir both sank Tuesday. A manufacturing services name sold off.
