Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has ordered an independent investigation of the public school district’s contracts with its transportation provider, Transdev, after a bus driver with lapsed credentials and a spotty driving record killed a 5-year-old boy.

The investigation comes almost a month after 5-year-old Lens Joseph was struck and killed by a BPS bus in Hyde Park.

Boston Public Schools will require additional safety-related reports from its school bus contractor Transdev and the company is speeding up refresher training for its drivers, in the wake of a school bus crash in Hyde Park that killed a 5-year-old last month, Mayor Michelle Wu and Superintendent Mary Skipper announced early Friday morning.
