Dozens of tornadoes tore across parts of the Plains and Midwest Sunday during a severe weather outbreak, leaving behind damaged homes, flipped vehicles and widespread storm reports from Kansas to Iowa.
An active stretch of weather continues Monday with another chance for storms with severe potential.
The warm front moving north through Michigan may spark a couple of isolate, but fairly large, thunderstorms this evening. Those few supercell thunderstorms may produce a tornado or two.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Storms moved across the Kansas City area Monday night, with straight-line winds emerging as a major threat in the core of the metro. By 10:45 p.m. Monday, all Tornado Warnings expired throughout the metro leaving only a number of Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and intense winds in many areas.
A PDS or Particularly Dangerous Situation Tornado Watch is in effect until 8 PM Monday. Strong tornadoes, extremely large hail, and damaging winds will all be possible.
The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center issued a tornado watch for areas in Iowa, Kansas and Missouri until 10 p.m. Monday. Forecasters said “intense supercell thunderstorms” that may include a few “intense tornadoes,” wind gusts up to 80 mph and large hail are likely.
