Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has praised the statesmanship and dignity of the late Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Reflecting on the early days of their acquaintance, Tun Dr Mahathir shared that he had known Tun Abdullah, who is fondly referred to as Pak Lah, long before his premiership.

Dubbed “Mr Clean” and “Mr Nice Guy”, Abdullah introduced various institutional and human rights reforms during his tenure as Malaysia’s fifth prime minister from 2003 to 2009.

The ex-prime minister says Malaysia would be a peaceful country if former leaders stepped aside without issues and left it to their successors to lead.
