The Marion County Fair opened for the 175th year Monday, June 30. This year's fair will feature plenty of new and classic exhibits and games for the entire family.
The 4-H Youth Development Program made its first appearance in 1922 and has been present at the fair ever since. The first Queen of the Marion County Junior Fair, Donna Knickel, was crowned in 1956.
According to the Marion County Fair fairbook, the fair first opened in 1851 on the lawn outside of Marion County Courthouse. Within two years it outgrew the space and found Copeland Woods.
