Skywatchers can enjoy a celestial alignment of the crescent moon, Venus, and Saturn on April 25, with Mercury visible near the horizon.

According to Culbertson, Venus will be the higher of the two “eyes” while Saturn will be the lower, and the thin, crescent moon grin will appear slightly lower and farther north. The smile will be visible to the naked eye, although a backyard telescope or pair of binoculars should allow you to get a better look at the moon’s details.

A rare celestial event will brighten Texas skies on Friday, April 25, as two planets join the crescent Moon to form a smile over the horizon. Stargazers may also catch a glimpse of "Earthshine," a soft glow of sunlight reflected from Earth that illuminates the dark side of the Moon.
