Officials said Friday that the 62-year-old Brooklyn man fatally shot by police at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital had no criminal record and used to be a police officer. Michael Lynch resigned from the NYPD in the 1990s, for reasons that were not immediately clear. He lived in Forte Greene, Brooklyn.

“At that moment, a 37-year-old male exited the BMW, drew what appeared to be a firearm. He pointed it at the officers. Once observing the firearm, the officers discharged their weapons,” he added.
