Europe is clamping down on AI-generated material on social media platforms that it says violates its laws. The move thrusts Europe back to the center of AI regulation after pressure from Big Tech and the US set it up for a watered down approach.

The European Commission said Monday it is "very seriously looking" into complaints that Elon Musk's AI tool Grok is being used to generate and disseminate sexually explicit childlike images.

Grok AI sparks global backlash over non-consensual sexualized images, prompting legal warnings from India, EU, UK and Malaysia.

On Tuesday, Britain's top technology official demanded that Musk's social media platform X take urgent action while a Polish lawmaker cited it as a reason to enact digital safety laws.
