Erik Hernandez pleaded guilty to manslaughter, a class 4 felony, the Weld County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

A former LaSalle police officer who was charged with murder pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Monday after a Weld County jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict over two days of deliberation.

Erik Hernandez had originally faced a charge of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Juston Reffel that occurred on May 3, 2023. On Monday, Hernandez pleaded guilty to manslaughter. The plea deal came after a Weld County jury couldn't reach a verdict in Hernandez's first trial in October of last year.

A former LaSalle police officer has pleaded guilty under a plea agreement to manslaughter in a 31-year-old man's shooting death in 2023.
